Saxophonist Stan Sulzmann and pianist Nikki Iles are iconic figures on the UK jazz scene composing and playing in their own distinctive contemporary styles.
But for all of the original cutting-edge music that these two outstanding instrumentalists have played it is the love of the Standard Jazz Repertoire that brings them together for their new album Stardust.
Beautifully recorded in the concert hall at the Royal Academy of Music this is a really intimate sounding record and a rare opportunity to listen to these two incredible instrumentalists up-close and personal.
The album begins with an original from Stan – Nikki’s Corner is dedicated to his great friend and musical collaborator Iles. The pair then play classics including Albert Hague’s Young and Foolish, Jonny Green’s Body and Soul and You’ll Never Get To Heaven by Burt Bacharach. Nikki’s original Under The Canopy is inspired by a great David Attenborough documentary and retains the importance of focus on melody
